Aledo High School sprinter Kia Jordan won the girls’ 100-meter dash with a time of 12.19 and Sierra White earned a gold medal in girls’ pole vault with a mark of 11 feet, three inches as the pair were two of six AHS athletes who qualified for the Class 5A state track meet with first- or second-place finishes at the Region I Track and Field Meet at Lowrey Field in Lubbock.

The meet concluded today with running finals and selected field events.

Mackenzie Lyon also qualified for state today in pole vault as she finished runner-up to White.

The lone AHS relay team to qualify for the regional meet – the Ladycats 4×100 relay – finished in third place in the girls’ 4×100 finals to narrowly miss qualifying for state.

Hurdler Preston Jefferis finished fourth in the boys’ 110-meter hurdles finals, and girls shot put regional qualifiers Erin Weiss and Alaina Touchet did not make the finals.

In the boys’ 400-meter dash finals, Noah Collins finished seventh with a time of 51.17.

On Friday, Harrison Tillman finished second in the boys’ 3,200-meter run to qualify for state, and today he finished sixth in the 1,600-meter run.

Two other AHS athletes qualified for state in field events on Friday as Wes Harris placed second in boys’ shot put and T.J. Zalar finished in second place in boys’ pole vault. Two other Aledo boys’ pole vault qualifiers, Dan Clute and Brevin McCoy, finished fifth and seventh, respectively.

The Class 5A State Track and Field Championships will be held May 12-13 at Mike Myers Track Complex on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin.
