Texas AgriLife Extension Service of Parker County will conduct free classes on “Tools to Becoming an Effective Parent” from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays May 17 and 24.
The classes will cover: Child Growth and Development, Age Appropriate Activities; Communication, Self Esteem, Discipline; Child Health and Food Safety, Growing Healthy and Happy Children with MyPyramid; and Shopping Strategies to Stretch Your Food Dollars. The classes will include food demonstrations, samples and recipes that will be provided by the Better Living for Texans Program.
Classes will be held at the Parker County Agricultural Services Center, 604 North Main Street in Weatherford. Persons interested in attending the class should pre-register by calling: 817-598-6168.

Texas AgriLife Extension Service of Parker County will conduct a money management class from 2-4 p.m. Thursday, May 19 at the Parker County Agricultural Services Center, 604 North Main Street in Weatherford. Managing Your Money is free of charge and is a course that will help you to better stretch your dollars. The topics will include: Values, Needs and Wants, Developing a Spending Plan, Money Management, Wise Use of Credit, Consumer information and Stretching Your Food Dollars. The class is open to anyone and will help people in bankruptcy, debt or anyone who wants to know how to better manage their money. For more information and to register, call 817-598-6168.

Texas AgriLife Extension will conduct an accredited Food Handlers Food Safety Class “Food Safety: It’s In Your Hands” from 4-6 p.m. Monday, May 16, 2011 at the Parker County Agricultural Services Center, 604 North Main Street in Weatherford.
This two-hour course is accredited by Texas Department of Health and Human Services and highly recommended for all food service employees to help promote the service of safe food. The course is a basic overview of food safety practices that are necessary to ensure that safe food is served at your establishment. Practices discussed include good personal hygiene, cross contamination, and time and temperature abuse.

The Texas AgriLife Extension Service in Parker County will offer “Do Well Be Well with Diabetes II from 6:30 - 9 p.m. on the Tuesdays of May 10, 17, 24 and 31 at the Parker County Agricultural Services Center, 604 North Main Street in Weatherford.
“Do Well, Be Well with Diabetes is an educational program to help people with type 2 diabetes learn the skills they need to understand and manage their diabetes, to reduce their risks for complications and to attain their highest possible level of wellness. The goal is that if you do well, you can be well with diabetes.

Parker County Extension Education will host the 2011 Spring Fling from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 12 at Couts United Methodist Church, 802 N. Elm in Weatherford.
Spring Fling will include educational presentations including “Spring Lawn & Gardening” by Jon Green, Parker County Extension Agent – Agriculture and Natural Resources; “The American Red Cross” program by Teresa Filkins with the local Red Cross; “Women’s Health” by Solis Women’s Health of Weatherford.
A Red Hat Ladies Fashion will be a special feature. Returning by popular demand, the fashion show will be one to remember.
A lunch of poppy seed chicken, crunchy romaine salad, almond green beans, heavenly dessert, coffee and tea will be provided from noon to 1 p.m.

The Parker County Master Gardener Association will have its Annual Spring Plant Sale from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 9 at Texas AgriLife Extension Service Office. There will also be a rainwater harvesting demonstration. For more information go to www.pcmg-texas.org.

Parker County 4-H will be hosting the Parker County 4-H Adventure Camp March 16-18 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. This camp is open to youth ages 8-12 and will cost $35/camper to participate. Join us for three fun filled mornings where campers will take part in fishing demonstrations, knot tying, wildlife ID, and hands on activities and crafts. Campers will test their abilities in the Animal Olympics by going toe to toe, wing to wing and hoof to hoof against wildlife found in Texas. They will learn new skills and safety practices that will be useful on camping and fishing trips, the impact of the footprints they leave in nature and how to explore their own backyards. Spaces are limited; your spot will be reserved once payment is received.

Texas AgriLife Extension Service of Parker County will offer three food handlers classes. One will be held on Monday, February 14, 2011; Wednesday, February 16, 2011 and the other class will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2011. The trainings each day will begin at 4:00 p.m. and will end at 6:00 p.m. You only have to attend one to receive certification.
