Beading workshops planned

A beading workshop and youth beading workshop will be held by AgriLife Extension Service in Parker County.
There will be lots of info for the beginning beader who wants to bead but doesn’t know where to start. Students will design, string and finish a bracelet and take home a personal loom and beads.
The classes are from 1-5 p.m. Thursday, July 16 for ages 12 and up and Friday, July 17 for youth at the Parker County office, 604 N. Main St. in Weatherford. Cost is $30 and includes all supplies. Register by July 13. Call 817-598-6172 for more info.

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of Parker County will host “Summer Fun Days Workshops” for children ages 5 to 8 years old, June 23, 24 and 25, 2015 at the Parker County Agricultural Services Center at 604 North Main Street in Weatherford.

The workshops will be held each day from 2-4:30 p.m. and will include hands-on activities. Kids will learn basic nutrition and food preparation skills and will prepare healthy snacks each day. The kids will also do a craft project each day and will participate in self-esteem activities.

The cost to attend the workshops is $25 for all three days. The class space is limited, participants must register. For more information and to register call the Parker County Extension Office at 817-598-6168, by June 17, 2015.

Certified Food Managers Course and Exam

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will offer a one day Certified Food Manager Course and Exam on Monday, June 22, 2015. The class will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the ServSafe Certified Food Manager Exam will begin at the conclusion of the eight hour class. The class will be held at the Parker County Agricultural Service Center located at 604 North Main Street in Weatherford. The cost for the course is $115, which iincludes the course, ServSafe Certified Food Managers examination, coursebook and all course materials. This course is an update and review of food safety principles and practices and will help prepare you for the exam.

Food Preservation Workshop

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension of Parker County will host a Food Preservation Workshop on Friday, June 19, 2015. The class will be from 1-5 p.m. and will cost $25. The registration will include recipes, canning supplies for the workshop, and handouts. Participants should bring a sack lunch. The workshop will be held at the Couts United Methodist Church located at 802 North Elm Street in the gym kitchen.

Participants will learn how to safely preserve food using the pressure canner and the water bath canner. The workshop will be helpful for beginners and those who need a refresher course in food preservation. Participants will learn how to safely can foods. They will also have the opportunity to can vegetables.

Cooking with Dad

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Parker County will host a “Cooking with Dad” event Tuesday, June 16 at 6 p.m. at the Parker County Agricultural Service Center, 604 North Main Street in Weatherford. Cost is $20 for father and child and $25 for two or more children. Scholarships are also available.
The workshop will include a fun evening of cooking and working together to prepare quick, healthy and low cost meals with dad. Dad and their children will prepare a healthy meal and go home with recipes to try.

Extension plans annual Spring Fling

Parker County Extension Education Association invites all men and women in Parker County to the 2015 Spring Fling, a day of education, personal development and fun. The event will be held Tuesday, April 14 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Couts United Methodist Church in Weatherford.
Speakers will include Carol Welch, Parker Count Master Gardener on “Monarch Butterfly Migration; Sue Wallace with Assisted Services Incorporated on Caring for the Caregiver; Kathy Sawyer on Essential Oils; Dr. Nicole Bartosh on Care for your Health. Entertainment will be provided by “The Sawyer Family.” Spring Fling will include lunch that will be served from noon-1:30 p.m. There will also be door prizes, silent auction and more.

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of Parker County will hold “Walking Toward Better Health,” a four-week walking group focused on nutrition and healthy lifestyles, beginning April 13, each Monday from 6-7 p.m. Individuals, friends, family members, and children are welcome and all ages and fitness levels are encouraged.
Walking is an important fitness component and can help men and women begin or continue a healthy lifestyle. In addition, the social aspect of walking as a group can make fitness enjoyable and refreshing.

Extension offers Safe Sitting Program

Parker County AgriLife Extension will host a Safe Sitter Program Monday, March 9 from 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Extension Office, 604 N. Main St. in Weatherford.
The course is for ages 11 and up and costs $50 to cover materials and lunch.
It is a medically accurate program to teach boys and girls how to handle emergencies when caring for children. It teaches safe and nurturing child care techniques, behavior management skills and appropriate responses to medical emergencies.
