The Texas AgriLife Extension Service of Parker County will offer parenting classes from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27 and Wednesday, Nov. 28 at the Parker County Agricultural Services Center. The parenting classes will use the curriculum “Becoming A Love and Logic Parent” by Jim Fay and Charles Fay. The curriculum will cover Raising Responsible Kids, The Love and Logic Formula, C Stands for Control, Ownership of the Problem, Thinking and Decision Making, Consequences. Also covered in the classes will be Keeping Children Healthy, Food Safety and Shopping Strategies for Healthy Eating. The classes will cost $10 per person for the two day class and will include lunch. Scholarships are available. Pre-registration is requested by Wednesday, Nov. 21. The Parker County Extension Education Association will hold the 2012 “Home for the Holidays” from 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8 at Couts Memorial United Methodist Church, 802 N. Elm Street, Weatherford.
Home for the Holidays is an event filled with holiday tips and ideas for getting into the holiday spirit. Speakers and presenters this year will include: Judy Leonard on Embellishments; Johnnie Kelly on Decorating with Burlap; Shirley Riebe on Table Decorating; Kayla Neill on Do It Your Self Cleaning Product Gifts; Julia Moseley on Decorating and Entertaining Tips; Ola Culwell on Ten Minute Table Runners and Kathy Hardin on Creative Ideas.
Home for the Holidays will include a variety of soups, sandwiches, corn bread and holiday desserts. There will be recipe books, a raffle table, gift table and silent auction, door prizes and much more.
The cost to attend is $15 per person and includes lunch, program materials and recipes. Tickets are available from Extension Education Association Members and the Parker County Extension Office. The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of Parker County will host a “Twogether in Texas” Marriage Education class from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27 at the Parker County Agricultural Services Center. The class is focuses on helping couples develop communication and conflict resolution skills and other tools for building strong relationships. After completing the class, couples will receive a certificate that can be taken to the county clerk to save $60 on a marriage license, and the 72 hour waiting period is waived for couples who complete the course. The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of Parker County will offer a one-day food manager certification training course, Food Safety: It’s Our Business, for food service managers at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 22 at the Parker County Agricultural Services Center, 604 North Main Street, Weatherford. The program is designed not only to prepare food service managers to pass the certification examination, but will provide valuable education regarding the safe handling of food. Special attention to food safety will help keep the many customers served safe and satisfied.
The course fee is $105 and includes training, course book, handouts and materials, and the National Restaurant ServSafe Certified Professional Food Manager examination. The course book and can be picked up one week prior to the training from the Extension Office. The deadline to register is Oct. 15. Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Parker County will offer the “Do Well Be Well with Diabetes” II class series on Tuesdays, Oct. 2, 9, 23, and 30. The cost to attend all the classes will be $20 per person, which will cover the entire series. The classes will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Parker County Agricultural Services Center, located at 604 North Main Street in Weatherford.
“Do Well, Be Well with Diabetes” is an educational program to help people with type 2 diabetes learn the skills they need to understand and manage their diabetes, to reduce their risks for complications and to attain their highest possible level of wellness. The goal is that if you do well, you can be well with diabetes.
The curriculum will include: What is Diabetes?; Nutrition — First Step to Diabetes Management; One Diabetes Diet — No Longer the Sole Option; Managing Your Blood Glucose; Nutrition Labels; Diabetes and Exercise; For Good Measure at Home and Eating Out; Diabetes Medicines; Preventing and Managing Complications.

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of Parker County will conduct a two hour personal financial management class called “Managing Your Money” from 2-4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24 at the Parker County Agricultural Services Center, 604 North Main Street in Weatherford. The class is for anyone interested in how to better manage their money, but it also for people who are currently in bankruptcy Chapter 7 and/or 13. The intent of the course is to increase financial knowledge and skills. The topics covered will include: Developing a Spending Plan, Money Management, Wise Use of Credit and Consumer information. Texas AgriLife Extension Service of Parker County will offer a Safe Sitter course from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, July 2 for youth ages 11 and up. Safe Sitter is a medically accurate program to teach boys and girls how to handle emergencies when caring for children. The class teaches safe and nurturing child care techniques, behavior management skills, CPR, first aid and appropriate responses to emergencies. The cost is $40 per person and includes lunch. The class will be held at the Parker County Extension office at 604 North Main Street in Weatherford. To register for the Safe Sitter class, visit the County Extension Office or call 817-598-6172.

Texas AgriLife Extension of Parker County will conduct a series of workshops called Master of Memory. The workshops will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays May 16, 23 and 30 at the Parker County Agricultural Services Center located at 604 North Main Street in Weatherford.The classes are $10 for the entire series. Parker County Extension Education Association’s 2012 Spring Fling will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24 at Couts United Methodist Church in Weatherford. Event speakers will include, Dr. James Roland on landscapes and Shirley Riebe on jewelry and accessories, old and new. Morgan Eddy of Freedom House will talk about human trafficking and Rev. Georgia Orr will share tips for a full life. There will be a fashion show and lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. There will also be door prizes, a raffle table and silent auction. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased from Parker County Extension club members and through the Texas AgriLife Extension office in Parker County.
