Shootings mar Labor Day weekend
Submitted by Randy Keck on Wed, 09/08/2010 - 15:42Sheriff’s deputies responded to two shooting calls over the Labor Day weekend.
Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler said both shootings occurred Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010, but were unrelated and in separate parts of the county.
The first incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. in the 1200 block of Knob Hill Road, in Azle, where a 16-year-old juvenile was shot in the face with a .22 rifle.
Investigators said the victim found the weapon, which belonged to his mother, in a closet. The victim’s sibling did not observe the shooting, but told deputies his brother had been playing with the weapon when it went off. A sheriff’s report stated neither boy believed the rifle was loaded.
County lifts burn ban
Submitted by Randy Keck on Tue, 09/07/2010 - 11:04Parker County’s burn ban has been lifted thanks to recent rainfall dropping the county’s fire danger and drought index number.
Parker County Fire Marshall Shawn Scott said he is grateful for the rain and he asks all Parker County residents to continue to be careful when burning
“We will continue to monitor the conditions as it relates to a wildfire danger,” Scott said. “Obviously the rain is a good thing and it decreases the likelihood of any extensive grass fire for the immediate future, but everyone still needs to be cautious when burning and be mindful of the conditions and their surroundings.”
