Events in the Aledo Independent School District
The Aledo Independent School District will host community meetings Oct. 3 and Oct. 4 on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness.
The Oct. 3 meeting is at 6:30 p.m. at the Daniel Ninth Grade Campus.
McAnally Intermediate will host the Oct. 4 meeting at 6:30 p.m.
Attendees will receive an overview of STAAR and the changes it represents for graduation requirements and state-mandated testing for students in grades three through 12.
The STAAR test is replacing the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills, or TAKS test, which is the criterion-referenced assessment program that has been in place since 2003.
STAAR includes the 12 end-of-course assessments mandated by SB 1031 in 2007, and the new grade three-through-eight assessments mandated by HB 3 in 2009.

The Aledo Middle School will have a free immunization clinic from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, August 19 at the Aledo Middle School Library. Bring any current shot records you have. For more information, call Laura Cooper, AMS Nurse, at 817-441-5198.
Dan Manning, lone finalist for the position of Superintendent of the Aledo Independent School District, will be available at two future community meeting to get to know parents and community members, and to create a listening forum.
The first meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 1 in the Stuard Elementary School cafeteria. The second meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8 in the cafeteria at the Daniel Ninth-Grade Campus. Parents, students and community members are encouraged to attend.

A reception to honor retiring Aledo ISD Superintendent Don Daniel will be from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 17 at the Ninth Grade Center Cafetorium. The public is invited.
The tenth annual Marva Collins Awards will be at 7 p.m. Monday, May 2 at the Aledo High School auditorium.
Since the awards’ inception in 2000, The Reilly Family Foundation has provided the $10,000 annual prize to the Aledo ISD’s top teacher, selected following an extensive interview process with a panel of judges.
In subsequent years cash awards have been added by sponsors to honor outstanding additional personnel in the educational process.
This year’s awards will be:

• Secondary Teacher of the Year – Faulk Company
• Intermediate Teacher of the Year – Jim Hardick Family
• Elementary Teacher of the Year – First Financial Bank
• Beginning Teacher of the Year – F. Howard and Mary D. Walsh
