Susan Nelson, STACI teacher at Mary Martin Elementary, was awarded the Tarleton Star Award on April 22 from Tarleton State University in Stephenville. She was also recognized at the May 12 Weatherford ISD Board meeting.
The Tarleton Star Award was instituted this year to recognize TSU graduates in the field for their outstanding teaching as well as those who may be outstanding pre-service teachers. The award is also part of the Effective Schools Project and is sponsored by The Journal of Effective Schools Project.
Susan Nelson, MME STACI teacher at Mary Martin Elementary, was awarded the Tarleton Star Award on April 22 from Tarleton State University in Stephenville.

Nelson was one of only five recipients this year, according to a release by TSU. She received a commemorative pin with a letter, and she will be featured in the 2011 edition of the Journal along with the other four recipients.
Weatherford ISD Board Member Kip Hooks and his wife, DeeDee visited Mary Martin Elementary on March 4 where they had lunch with the Sixth Grade Student Council officers and also visited various classrooms.
