Curtis Elementary's coordinator for STAR and Watch Dogs Linda Wilbur was recognized by the Phoenix Lodge No. 275 on April 25 as the recipient of the Maribeau B. Lamar Award of Excellence.
This prestigious award recognizes Wilburn's exemplary achievement and outstanding contributions to education in the Weatherford community.
The Maribeau B. Lamar Award of Excellence is named after the second president of the Republic of Texas. Lamar, also a member of the Masonic Fraternity, has also been called "the father of the Texas public school system” for his leadership in establishing quality public education in Texas.

Curtis Kids Unite: Lt. Cody Lee of the Lone Camp Volunteer Fire Department in Palo Pinto County (aka.WISD assistant network manager) came in full gear to accept their donations and talked to the students about the volunteer firemen and their roll in fighting fires. Lee, who is also WISD's assistant network manager, answered several questions by the students concerning the current fire situation (courtesy photo).
Curtis Elementary's Pride and Patriotism Committee organized and collected donations for Operation Wildfire in order to show support and appreciation for all the firefighters who are battling the PK wildfires.

Weatherford ISD School Board President Yale Young recently paid a visit to Curtis Elementary where he had the opportunity to eat lunch in the courtyard with students as well as met with Student Council officers who shared their classroom activities, academic data, and presented him with a book of "Top Tens."

Two teams from Curtis Elementary will be competing tomorrow (Saturday) in the Destination Imagination Regional Tournament at Justin Northwest Junior High School.
Destination Imagination is a creative problem-solving competition in which teams choose a challenge and work to create a solution.
The pair of Curtis teams, "Team DInamite" and "Team Megabytes," have been working together since September 2010 researching, writing scripts, building sets, and creating costumes -- all without adult "interference."
