Identity thieves using jury scam

Once again, identity thieves are using a clever way to steal your identity. This latest scam (which has actually been around for a while) has the con artists contacting persons by phone and identifying themselves as an officer of the court or a jury coordinator. Then they tell the unsuspecting individual that they failed to report for jury duty and that a warrant has been issued for their arrest. If they protest that they never received a summons for jury duty, the scammer asks for their Social Security number and date of birth so he or she can verify the information and cancel the arrest warrant. Give out any of this information and bingo; your identity was just stolen.

The following offenses were observed or reported to the Weatherford Police Department between Monday 09-20-10 and Tuesday 09-21-10.

Theft:
09-20-10, 800 Ft Worth Hwy, an employee of Heritage Auto & Truck Sales reported that between 09-18-10 and 09-20-10 unknown suspect(s) had entered onto the property and stole a taillight assembly off of a Dodge pickup truck.

09-20-10, 300 Davis St, a complainant reported that between 8pm 09-19-10 and 9am 09-20-10 unknown suspect(s) had stolen several hundred feet of copper welding leads from his trucked mounted welding machine.

09-20-10, 1400 W. Water St, a complainant reported that between 8pm 09-19-10 and 8am 09-20-10 unknown suspect(s) had stolen approx 200 hundred feet of copper welding leads from his trucked mounted welding machine.

The following offenses were observed or reported to the Weatherford Police Department between Friday 09-17-10 and Sunday 09-19-10.

Theft:
09-17-10, 800 W. Park Ave, a complainant reported that between 6pm 09-16-10 and 8am 09-17-10 unknown suspect(s) had stolen approx 60 bundles of singles that were being stored next to a residence awaiting installation.

09-19-10, 100 College Park Ave, a complainant reported that between 09-17-10 and 09-19-10 unknown suspect(s) had removed a 12’x16’ portable building that was located close to the roadway in the parking lot.

Burglary of a Vehicle:
09-17-10, 300 W. 2nd St, a complainant reported that between 12pm and 1pm unknown suspect(s) had entered into a vehicle without permission and stole a prescription medication.

The following offenses were observed or reported to the Weatherford Police Department between Thursday 09-16-10 and Friday 09-17-10.

Burglary of a Vehicle:
09-16-10, 200 Hidden Acres Ln, a complainant reported that between 6pm 09-14-10 and 5am 09-15-10 unknown suspect(s) had entered into a vehicle without permission and stole a pair of sunglasses and a camera.

Assault:
09-16-10, 1000 S. Waco St, a complainant reported that during an argument with her spouse she was assaulted when he punched her in the face causing her physical pain. The suspect advised that he had in fact been assaulted by the complainant. Only minor injuries were reported due to the assault.

Burglary of a Habitation:
09-15-10, 500 Zachary Dr, a complainant reported that between 1pm 09-14-10 and 2pm 09-15-10 unknown suspect(s) had entered into a residence under construction and stole a microwave and stove.

Burglary of a Vehicle:
09-15-10, 200 Valley Ranch Rd, a complainant reported that between 9pm 09-14-10 and 7am 09-15-10 unknown suspect(s) had entered into a vehicle without permission and stole a portable GPS device.

The following offenses were observed or reported to the Weatherford Police Department between Tuesday 09-14-10 and Wednesday 09-15-10.

Burglary of a Habitation:
09-14-10, 100 W. Josephine St, a complainant reported that between 5pm and 7pm unknown suspect(s) had entered into a residence without permission and stole two televisions and a video game system.

09-14-10, 1000 Ft Worth Hwy, a complainant reported that between 08-30-10 and 09-09-10 unknown suspect(s) forced entry into a residence through a rear door. Once inside the residence the suspect(s) stole a television and a computer.

Mail scam targets Weatherford residents

As always, the Weatherford Police Department is committed to keeping the community up to date on the latest email, mail, and phone scams. We were contacted recently by a resident who received this letter (click here) which has been deemed a mail scam. The resident took the letter with the accompanying check to their bank who advised them that it was fraudulent.

Criminal Mischief:
09-13-10, 300 S. Bowie Dr, a complainant reported that between 09-09-10 and 09-12-10 unknown suspect(s) had damaged his vehicle by cutting electrical wires underneath the frame.

Harassment:
09-13-10, 600 Palo Pinto St, a complainant reported that she had been receiving harassing texts messages from a known female suspect.

09-10-10, 1600 Holland Lake Dr, a complainant reported that between 1pm 09-09-10 and 6am 09-10-10 unknown suspect(s) had stolen the taillights off of his 2009 GMC pickup.

09-11-10, 800 W. Park Ave, a complainant reported that between 8am 09-10-10 and 7am 09-11-10 unknown suspect(s) had stolen roofing materials that had been stacked next to a residence.

Burglary of a Vehicle:
09-12-10, 1800 S. Main St, a complainant reported that between 7:00pm and 7:30pm an unknown suspect had entered into a vehicle without permission and stole an Apple I-phone

The following offenses were observed or reported to the Weatherford Police Department between Thursday 09-09-10 and Friday 09-10-10.

Credit Card Abuse:
09-09-10, 1600 Holland Lake Dr, a complainant reported that in the past few weeks a known suspect had used his credit card without his permission to make numerous charges at local stores.

Assault:
09-09-10, 300 W 2nd St, a complainant reported that during an argument with a known suspect she was assaulted when the suspect pushed her causing her to fall to the ground. Minor injuries were reported by the complainant.

Arrest:
Possession of Marijuana under 2oz: 1
Driving While Intoxicated: 1
