Park ranger to speak

The Weatherford College Young Democrats will sponsor a community service event on Feb. 11 open to the public. Texas Parks Ranger John Ferguson will enlighten them on the new state park being built close to Strawn, Texas, halfway between Abilene and Fort Worth. Ranger Ferguson is the manager in charge of putting together this huge project, which lies on 4,000 acres and will encompass a number of recreational activities for Texans and visitors to enjoy. A native of Cisco, Texas, Ranger Ferguson has worked for the Parks Services since 1999 and has moved his family to Strawn since being assigned this monumental task. His background includes service to his country in the Marine Corps and attending Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas. The public is invited to come to the Fine Arts Building the the Weatherford College campus at 7 p.m. to hear and see the plans for Palo Pinto Mountain State Park due for completion in five years. Celebration for Education

The Parker County Democratic Party, in conjunction with the Parker County Active Democrats organization will sponsor a Celebration for Education starting at 6 p.m. on September 20 at the Doss Heritage and Cultural Center, located at 1400 Texas Drive in Weatherford. The event consists of a cash bar and silent auction, a dinner, guest speakers Joel Burns, Fort Worth City Councilman; Marc Veasey, State Representative; and Joe Tison, former Weatherford Mayor and School Superintendent. Proceeds go to the Weatherford College Scholarship Fund. Everyone is invited to attend. Tickets are available for $35 each or a table of eight for $250, and may be obtained by contacting Lela Morris at 8170-597-4901.

Candidate Forum

The Parker County Democratic Party will host a statewide candidate forum from 3-5 p.m. Saturday, May 5 at Brioche Bistro & Bakery on the Weatherford square. U.S. Senate candidates Sean Hubbard and Grady Yarbrough have committed to attend, as well as Congressional candidate Dave Robinson and Railroad Commission candidate Dale Henry.Refreshments will be provided.
