Parker County will conduct a two-hour personal financial management class called “Managing Your Money” at 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 30, at the Parker County Agricultural Services Class located at 604 North Main Street in Weatherford. The class is for anyone interested in how to better manage their money, but it also for people who are currently in bankruptcy Chapter 7 and/or 13. The intent of the course is to increase your financial knowledge and skills. Topics everyone filing for bankruptcy needs to know. The topics covered will include: Developing a Spending Plan, Money Management, Wise Use of Credit and Consumer information. There is a $10 charge to attend the class. Parker County Gold Star Families and Horsemen for Christ will hold a fundraiser to benefit Parker County’s Veteran Memorial Site, Soldier Springs Park. The event will run from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, during the NCHA Brazos Bash at Silverado, Cadillac Arena, 100 Arena Run, Weatherford. Dr. Dale Rollins, our Extension Wildlife Specialist from San Angelo, will present a program on Feral Hog Management at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12 at Sweeney Ranch, 5403 Old Dennis Road. (Take exit 406 off of I-20 and head south. The gate entrance will be on the left and is approximately 6.5 miles past the Pilot Truck Stop.)
If you have encountered feral hog damage or would just like to know more about feral hogs and their management, this program should be helpful. “Take this opportunity to learn from one of the best,” said Jon Green, County Extension Agent Ag. - Parker County. “Rollins is known nationwide for his work with quail but he is also quite knowledgeable in the management of feral hogs. Hogs cause millions of dollars in damages to crops, livestock, and wildlife each year in Texas and seem to be getting worse.”
Various kinds of hog traps will be on display and participants will hear about feral hog biology, current status, management options, trapping techniques and other control methods, said Green.

Texas AgriLife Extension of Parker County will host Making Salsas and Drying Fruits, Vegetables and Herbs from 10 a.m.to 2 p.m. Thursday, July 18, at the Parker County Agricultural Service Center, 604 North Main Street in Weatherford.
The workshop will cover the basics of making salsas and the principles of drying/dehydrating foods. Participants will also have the opportunity to make several kinds of salsas and practice dehydrating foods.
Participants who have water bath canners and/or dehydrators are asked to bring them in case they are needed for the workshop.
Cost is $20. The registration will include recipes, canning supplies, ingredients and handouts. Participants should bring a sack lunch.

Texas AgriLife Extension of Parker County will host Basic Food Preservation and Making Jams and Jellies from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, June 21, at the Parker County Agricultural Service Center, 604 North Main Street in Weatherford.
The workshop will be helpful for beginners and those who need a refresher course in food preservation. Participants will learn how to safely can foods. They will also have the opportunity to can vegetables and make jelly.
Participants who have pressure canners or water bath canners are asked to bring their canners in case they are needed for the workshop. Canner gauge testing will be available for those who need theirs tested as well.
Cost is $20. The registration will include recipes, canning supplies for the workshop, and handouts. Participants should bring a sack lunch.

Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Service of Parker County, in cooperation with the Parker County Master Gardeners, will provide a 90 minute seminar to address the threat of wildfires and how damage can be mitigated using Firewise Landscaping methods at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 27 at the extension office, 604 N. Main Street in Weatherford.
As the Possum Kingdom fire of 2012 showed, Parker and neighboring counties are prime examples of an area where the wildfire threat is extremely high. Residents, especially newcomers, need to know about wildfires and understand the steps they can take, as individuals or through their homeowners associations, to lessen this threat.

Parker County’s spring 2013 CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) class will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Mondays, April 8, 15 and 22, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 27.
