Texas artist Ron Cheek will be the guest artist for the Weatherford Art Association meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 28, at the Firehouse Gallery. Ron A. Cheek is the founder and director of the Texas Academy of Figurative Art. Cheek is a contemporary realist painter whose work reflects an academic, Old Master quality combined with contemporary subject matter and content. Cheek is from Texas and began his career in architecture and holds a Bachelor of Environmental Design from Texas A&M University. Cheek also holds a Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling from Colorado Christian University. In 1997 Cheek went to Florence, Italy, to study full time at the prestigious Florence Academy of Art. In 2001 Cheek returned to Texas to paint full time. In 2007 Cheek founded the Texas Academy of Figurative Art with a handful of students who were seeking a true realist based art education.
Parkinson's Support Group of Tarrant County will meet at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 28, at the Broadway Baptist Church, Third Floor, 305 W. Broadway, Fort Worth. Visitors are encouraged to attend and are certainly welcome. The program will be a presentation of "Punching Out Parkinson's", a fun new specialized exercise program for Parkinson's patients to help maintain mobility and balance. The Talking Tombstones Tour will be held on Saturday, Oct. 19, at Old City Greenwood Cemetery, 300 Front St. in Weatherford. This year’s theme is “Men of the Cloth.” Period-attired presenters will share their life stories with docent-supervised tour groups. Tours begin at 1 p.m. and will begin every 15 minutes with the last tour starting at 3 p.m. Tour length is approximately 75 minutes. The entry fee is $10 for children over 10 and adults and $5 for children 5-9. The tour is not recommended for small children or those requiring walking assistance. No strollers will be allowed. Sponsored by the Parker County Heritage Society, the event’s proceeds will go toward the preservation and maintenance of Old City Cemetery. Clark Gardens’ Cathy Villa and Jodi Tolleson will lead a Flower Arranging Class from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 19. Cathy and Jodi will take you on a guided walk to collect foliage and flowers and then share their secrets for affordable, beautiful fresh foliage arrangements (think pumpkins!). Space is limited. The second annual free health fair sponsored by the Parker County Medical Society will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Oct. 12 at North Side Baptist Church, 910 N. Main in Weatherford. Multiple vendors and stations will provide free flu shots, cancer awareness information, cholesterol screening, free children's helmets and t-shirts, an ask-a-physician station and door prizes. The Area V Championships at Greenwood Farm in Weatherford, sponsored by Charlie Gilchrist’s SouthWest Ford, will take place from Oct. 11 to Oct. 13.
On Friday, Oct. 11, dressage runs from noon until 5:00 p.m. On Saturday, Oct. 12, dressage, stadium jumping and cross-country jumping run from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. On Sunday, from 8:00 until 3:30, cross-country and stadium jumping rounds will decide the winners.

Parker County Retired Teachers will meet at 11:30 a.m. for lunch followed by a noon business meeting and program on Oct. 1. The meeting will take place at Central Christian Church Cuppett Hall, 1602 S. Main St., in Weatherford.The speaker will be Mark Riley, County Judge, who will update members on the many decisions that must be made in Parker County to keep up with growth and traffic concerns. Parker County will conduct a two-hour personal financial management class called “Managing Your Money” at 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 30, at the Parker County Agricultural Services Class located at 604 North Main Street in Weatherford. The class is for anyone interested in how to better manage their money, but it also for people who are currently in bankruptcy Chapter 7 and/or 13. The intent of the course is to increase your financial knowledge and skills. Topics everyone filing for bankruptcy needs to know. The topics covered will include: Developing a Spending Plan, Money Management, Wise Use of Credit and Consumer information. There is a $10 charge to attend the class.
