Events of interest to all Parker County residents
The Countywide Cleanup is Saturday, April 5 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. at all county precinct barns.
All Parker County residents are encouraged to clean up their personal property and, if possible, form neighborhood groups to clean and mow roadsides, public areas and assist disabled persons in cleaning around their homes.
This is an excellent opportunity to meet neighbors and enhance the formation of networks throughout the county, which can actively support a number of worthwhile projects from crime watch to helping neighbors in need.
Cleanup day is for private citizens, not commercial disposal. Residents are required to bring some form of proof of residency, as the clean up is for Parker County residents only.
Commissioners' precinct barns will have areas or receptacles designated for the following items: aluminum, iron, glass etc.
tires (rims removed)
dried paint cans
lumber, limbs and brush
batteries, oil filters, and oil
No flammable liquids, shingles, paint or chemicals will be accepted. As a courtesy to workers, separate items and bag securely to speed unloading and reduce labor. Please do not expect them to unload loose garbage.
All Parker County residents may go to the closest collection site. Directions to precinct barns are as follows:

The annual Thanksgiving Trot in Aledo will benefit AISD student Dylan Hancock, who is recovering from a heart transplant. The 1 mile run begins at 8 a.m. and the 5K begins at 8:30 a.m.
To register for the Thanksgiving Trot, visit aledothanksgivingtrot.com and click “Get Registered” in the bottom right corner. The registration fee is $25 for adults and $15 for children by Nov. 21. The cost is $30 for adults and $20 for children after Nov. 21. Race day registration is available. T-shirts are first come, first serve on run day. The packet pickup will be held at 7:30 a.m. on race day, Nov. 28, at 505 South Point Court, Aledo, the site of the run.
The Parkinson's Support Group of Tarrant County will meet at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 25, at the Broadway Baptist Church, Third Floor, 305 W. Broadway, Fort Worth. Caregivers and patients will meet separately to share ideas and concerns. Veterans Home Care will present information on the VetAssist program. World-renowned artist and sculptor Robert Summers will open the new Cultural Arts Complex in Cleburne with a “hearth blessing” at 10 a.m. on Nov. 2 at the Celebrate the Arts festival at 425 Granbury Street in Cleburne.
“I am flattered you would want me to do this,” said Robert, who was born in Cleburne and is a longtime resident of Glen Rose.
The Celebrate the Arts festival and hearth warming will be the first major event at the JN Long Cultural Arts Complex. Cleburne Friends of the Cultural Arts has leased the former JN Long elementary campus at 425 Granbury Street from CISD for development into a major arts center. The main three-story structure was built in 1915. The separate cafeteria, gym and annexes were built later. Adult Ed will continue to use the annexes this year.
Two of Robert Summers most famous sculptures are the three cowboys and 70 Texas Longhorns on the Trail Drive in Dallas, and the 9-foot statue of John Wayne in the Orange County airport. Other works are in the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame, the state capitol in Austin, on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C., in Roswell and Artesia, New Mexico, and many other locations. Robert had no formal training in art except a short course in mixing colors at age 15. He was soon told he had surpassed the instructor and was wasting his time. The Parker County Hospital District and Holland Lake Nursing Center will be providing free flu shots with a canned food donation from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30. The shot or FluMist are available to anyone 6 months and older. The Outreach Program will be providing the flu vaccine and nurses and Holland Lake will be hosting the drive thru event at their facility, located at 1201 Holland Lake Drive, Weatherford.
The PCHD Outreach Program started administering the flu vaccine the first of September. In the last seven weeks they have given over 8500 shots/mist in all the county schools and many businesses. “Working this season with the motto of Protect yourself, Protect your family and Protect your community, the Outreach Program wants to make sure that anyone who wants the flu shot can get it,” Outreach Director, Lisa Franklin stated. Knowing this event could attract a lot of residents the collaboration with Holland Lake Nursing Center was a perfect fit. Donna Tillman, Administrator at Holland Lake said, “The overall health of the community is so important that we knew we had to be a part of this day long event.”

Clark Gardens BOOtanical will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Oct. 31. The community-wide event will support local animal shelters, C.A.R.E., Center of Life Mineral Wells and Center of Hope Weatherford.
Activities designed for children 12 and younger include trick or treating, arts & crafts, games, a “Walk on the Wild Side”, an old-fashioned cake walk, a fortune teller, ghostly movies, DJ music and food. The goal of the event is to (1) provide a safe, fun family Halloween event, (2) stock local food banks’ pantries and support local animal shelters and (3) provide education on nature and environmental resources.
There will be a costume contest for dogs, children and adults. People costume contests begin at 6 p.m. and the dog costume contest begins at 7 p.m. Dog costume winners will be crowned Mr. and Mrs. Barker County and Mr. and Mrs. Palo Pinto Paws County. Bonus points are given to dogs that have a platform or cause they are campaigning for.
