Parker County Court Appointed Special Advocates will conduct New Advocate Training beginning with an orientation on Feb. 21 and continuing through March. Training consists of 10 sessions for a total of 30 hours. Some training will include field trips to the Department of Family and Protective Services office and court rooms. The Parker County Women’s and Newcomers’ Club will meet at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 9 at Texas Hall in the Alkek Fine Arts Center at Weatherford College to feel the spirit of the season and enjoy the music of John Tracy. The Brookshire’s Food & Pharmacy in Willow Park will begin a grand reopening celebration from 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3. The first 500 customers to come in will receive free groceries and a $25 coupon booklet.

Lynn Baber, a resident of Weatherford, will be available to sign copies of her book, “He Came Looking For Me; A True Story of Hope and Redemption” from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12 at Agape Coffee Haus Bookstore, 108 Jearl St. in Aledo.
The little girl reached her small hand through the rails of the fence I was tied to and touched my poor sunburned face. For just a moment I touched her back. As her fingers left my face she said to me, "hope you find a nice home." Her father didn't say it, but he knew that probably wasn't going to happen.
The pair moved down the aisle of the auction barn away from me, our brief encounter already forgotten. Will this horse doomed for slaughter be ransomed?

The Parker County Extension Education Association invites everyone to the 2011 “Home for the Holidays” from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10 at Couts Memorial United Methodist Church, 802 North Elm Street in Weatherford. Home for the Holidays is an event filled with holiday tips and ideas to help “get you into that Holiday Spirit.”
There will be special presentations and demonstrations by local speakers.
“Holiday Gifts on the Go” will be presented by Amanda Hendrix and DeAnne Rooney with the Heritage House; “Special Santas will be presented by Ruby Bonneau who has the talent of creating beautiful Santas. “Accessorizing Your Holiday Fashions” will be presented by Rebecca Shapley with Premier Jewelry; “Making and Decorating a Cornucopia” will be presented by Antoinette Reed; and “Tell it like it Is” will be presented by Willetta Crosslin.
Home for the Holidays will include a festive lunch variety of soups, sandwiches, corn bread and desserts. There will be recipe books, a raffle table, gift table and silent auction, door prizes and much more.

The annual Parker County Juvenile Diabetes Walk will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12 at Town Creek Trail in Weatherford. Registration begins at 3 p.m. at the First Monday Grounds. Parker County American Legion Post #163 will host a Veterans Day parade at 9:45 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12. The theme of the parade is “Veterans - Are Our Freedom.” Members of the community are invited to participate in the parade with a float. A float entry form can be downloaded at www.community-news.com. The parade will start at the Weatherford Ninth Grade Center off of South Main Street.
