The AmazinGrace 5k run/walk will be at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct.21 at Bearcat Park in Aledo. The race helps send the junior high, high school, and college-aged students of Aledo United Methodist Church on mission trips for the summer of 2013. Staci Smith, the new run coordinator, said, “We are really excited about the race being moved to Bearcat Park! We believe this is the first step in making this a community event for all ages.” There will be an after party with food, live music, bounce houses and fun for the whole family.

Aledo United Methodist Church will sponsor a parenting program, “Bullying,” from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24. Debbie Thornton, M. Ed., LPC-I and school counselor at Vandagriff Elementary School will present information about school policies and interventions as well as parent strategies for helping their children deal with bullying, including cyber bullying. The program is open to the community and parents of children K-12 are encouraged to attend. Childcare will be provided through the church nursery and Wednesday night program. Aledo United Methodist will sponsor a parenting program "Advocating For Your Child/Partnering With Your Child's Teacher," from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17. Lynn McKinney, Deputy Superintendent of Aledo ISD, will discuss how to communicate your child's needs, questions to ask at parent-teacher conferences and ways to support your child's learning at home. The program is open to the community and parents of children K-12 are invited to attend. Childcare will be provided through our nursery and Wednesday night program. The "Mission Chicks" (women) of Aledo United Methodist Church will hold their annual garage sale from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday, July 27 and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 28. Donations are needed and will be accepted from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday, July 23 until Thursday, July 26. Items should be brought to the fellowship hall. Starting Saturday at 11 a.m., large items will be half price and everything you can get in a white garbage bag will be $5. A donation tax credit letter will be available upon request for the donations. For more information, call Lynnda Burroughsvat 817-832-9498. Money raised from the garage sale goes for scholarships for senior graduating girls, missionaries, youth mission trips, Center of Hope and other organizations in need.

Aledo United Methodist Church will host its annual Lord’s Acre Fall Festival from 4-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct 8. The church has celebrated this event for more than 40 years. Children’s activities include games, face painting and bounce houses in the Kids Carnival from 4 to 5:30 p.m. The festival also includes a bake sale, gift shop, cake walk, and silent and live auctions. A BBQ dinner with homemade pie will be served from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Funds raised support the missions and ministries of Aledo United Methodist Church.
