Track and Field: Aledo teams compete at tough Northwest meet

TCA season under way

Posted

In what is annually one of the toughest meets around, the Aledo Bearcats and Ladycats competed in the Northwest Texan Invitational on Friday, Feb. 28.

As a team, the Aledo boys placed third with 93 points, just two points behind runner-up Forney. Northwest Nelson won the meet with 140.

The Ladycats were fourth among the girls, scoring 86 points. Northwest Eaton was first with 129, Northwest was second with 116 and Nelson was third with 108.

Winning gold medals for the Bearcats were Trey Warner in the 400-meter dash, Braylon Brown in the pole vault, and the 4x400 relay.

Adam Averett took second in three events, the 110 and 300 hurdles, along with the pole vault. He set school records in both hurdles events, clocking a 14.72 in the 110 and 38.86 in the 300, and his vault of 15 feet was a personal record.

“He had a pretty incredible day,” Bearcats coach Andrew Clark said.

The Bearcats posted three top-five finishes in the pole vault with Kantyn Kasich placing fourth.

Addison Smith captured the lone gold medal for the Ladycats, winning the 100. She was also second in the 200.

Micah Neal was runner-up in the 1600 and 3200, and Emma Ralph was second in the pole vault, which had a 2-3-4 Aledo finish with Maggie Kilburn and Claire Campbell, respectively.

“We were battling injury and some illness,” Clark said. “We ran well, all things considered. The 4x400 relay put down a really good time (3;22.89) for this point in the season, and it wasn't even at full strength.”

The Bearcats and Ladycats were hosting the Bearcat Relays at press time.

“This week we should be stronger than we have been all year. Getting some kids back off of injury and illness, and we should have a good showing at our home meet,” Clark said. “The 400 will be a marquee event this week with Adam and the phenom from Northwest High School both running in the event.”
