GIRLS BASKETBALL

AMS takes five of six from Mansfield Jobe

Seventh grade: A Team won 66-7, B Team won 25-2, C Team won 27-15.

Eighth grade: A Team lost 41-19, B Team won 26-3, C Team won 24-19.

Hall teams win Extravaganza

The Weatherford Hall Lady Roos eighth-grade A team won the Lady Roo Basketball Extravaganza with a perfect 3-0 record. They defeated Weatherford Tison 34-13, Granbury Middle School 35-16 and Joshua Loflin 32-20.

Tournament MVP is Charlene Erdelt. Players of the Game are Izzy Hixson, Gracie Clift and Laine Tomlinson.

The Hall seventh-grade girls also won the event, going 3-0. They defeated Tison 39-23, GMS 42-9 and Loflin 49-30.

Tournament MVPs are Daylyn Drake and Bailee Sullins. Players of the Game are Vivian Scarbro and Izzy Cook.

VOLLEYBALL

Urbanska, Maldonado named All-Americans for WC

Weatherford College's Weronika Urbanska and Gabriella Maldonado were named on the Division I All-America Volleyball team list by the National Junior College Athletic Association. 

Both freshmen, Urbanska made the second team, and Maldonado was named to the third team, as well as being selected for the All-Tournament Team at the NJCAA Division I National Tournament.

With these newest awards, WC now has five All-American athletes in 2024, the most in a calendar year in school history. 

A 6-foot outside hitter from Warsaw, Poland, Urbanska had an impressive 2024 season, including being named Player of the Year in the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference. Playing in 39 matches, Urbanska came away with 594.5 points, ranking third in the nation. She also came in fourth in the nation with 489 kills and eleventh in the nation with 70 service aces. 

Maldonado, a 6-foot right-side hitter from Joshua High School, also played at an outstanding level this season. She competed in a total of 38 matches, with 254 kills, averaging 2.13 kills per set, and 78 total blocks. 

The Coyotes (32-8) won the conference title for the third year in a row and made the national tournament for the second straight year. 

WRESTLING

Weatherford teams shine in tourney

The Weatherford Kangaroos finished second and the Lady Roos were third in the Brawl by the Lake in Belton recently. Leading the varsity girls were Mackenzie Williamson, Emersyn Burns and Alyssa Willis with individual championships, while Val Hernandez was second.

Leading the varsity boys were Eli Garrett and Johnny Lara with second-place finishes.
