The Aledo Racquet Cats' tennis season came to an end in the Class 5A Region I quarterfinals with an 11-1 loss to Argyle High School recently at Haslet Eaton High School. They ended the season with a 15-4 overall record and won the District 5-5A championship with a 6-0 record.
They advanced to the third round of the playoffs, defeating Birdville 11-6 in bidistrict and winning 10-1 over Burleson in the area round. The loss to Argyle ended an 11-match winning streak.
Despite the loss to Argyle, the match featured several games that came down to deuces and tiebreakers.
The one posted win for Aledo was at line 2 boys doubles duo of Ben Kurth/Casen Freeland, 3-6, 6-2, 10-6.
There was an additional mixed doubles match played by Alex Vozeh/Gracie Heydman, which was a win for Aledo at Line 2 (8-6) that does not count towards the official playoff match score.
The area match against Burleson was played at Granbury High School on Oct. 10. Two of the boys’ doubles teams won. Line 2 Freeland/ Kurth won 6-0, 6-3, and Line 3 Noah Nottingham/Tom Ruminsky at 6-3, 6-3.
All lines of girls doubles were winners. Line 1 Elli Kate Bussmeir/Sydney Byrd won 6-0, 6-0; Line 2 McKinley Hayes/Lila Satterfield won 6-0, 6-2; and Line 3 Eleanor Jack/Patrice Loftin won 2-0, 6-2.
Mixed doubles played by Natalie Nawrocki/Paxton Psencik posted a win at 6-1, 6-1.
The team began singles play needing four wins to grab the title. Victories were posted by boys Line 6 Psencik 6-1, 6-0. The girls singles wins were Line 1 Satterfield 6-0, 6-0; Line Bussmeir 6-2, 2-1 and Line 3 Byrd 6-0, 6-1.
