Ladycats’ win streak hits 17 games

Posted

Aledo’s Ladycats have been nothing short of spectacular this softball season. Following back-to-back run rule victories over Azle and Granbury in the last week, the Ladycats’ win streak now stands at 17 games.

Having last tasted defeat on Feb. 17, the Ladycats (21-2 overall, 6-0 in District 5-5A) blanked the Lady Hornets, 10-0, on Friday, March 22 behind a stalwart performance in the pitchers circle by Taylor McKean. She was a lone issued walk away from a perfect game as she picked up the win with a complete game for Aledo.

As stout of a performance as McKean had on Friday, it was not to be outdone by Brenlee Gonzales’ start on Tuesday, March 26, against Granbury. Gonzales tossed six shutout innings, surrendering just one hit to the Lady Pirates en route to an 11-0 win for the Ladycats.

Not only did she shine on the mound for Aledo on Tuesday, but Gonzales also managed to get it done at the plate, as well. Aledo’s hurler went 2-for-3 at the dish with a double and five runs batted in.

“I feel like we’re locked in,” Ladycats head coach Heather Myers said. “We’re really focused on having quality at-bats versus just going up there and trying to hit the crap out of the ball all of the time. We’re trying to flip and get more walks than strikeouts. That’s really our focus. ‘Discipline’ is the word of the week every week. I feel like they’re taking that to the plate with intention. I think it’s paying off for them.”

Once they get going

It took four innings for the Ladycats to get on the scoreboard with their first run of the game. Once the dam broke open, Aledo scored runs at will.

Delaney Rosser, Ana Flores, and Marina Taveras all scored in the fourth inning. In the fifth inning, the Ladycats put three more on the scoreboard as Addie Perry, Rosser, and Flores all crossed the plate in the inning. Five more runs in the sixth inning wrapped things up as the Ladycats steamrolled the hosting Lady Pirates in Granbury.
