Ladycats dominate all-district

Several players among state leaders

The state semifinalist Aledo Ladycats dominated the recent All-District 5-5A awards presented by the coaches in the district.

Aledo finished 35-8 overall, won district with a 12-0 record, and advanced to the Class 5A Division I state semifinals before falling in a thrilling five-set match (lost fifth set 3-2) to state runner-up McKinney North.

Senior middle hitter Kinley Elms, who has committed to Lamar University, and junior outside hitter and Abilene Christian University commit Alyssa Todd were named Co-MVPs of the district. Todd was ranked 11th in the state in 5A in kills with 557 and had a .316 hitting percentage and Elms was 11th in the state in hitting percentage at .368, along with posting 418 kills and 98 blocks.

Meanwhile, back row specialists senior Kenrie Pruitt (575 digs, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi commit) and junior Ella Meador (521 digs, University of Texas-El Paso commit) shared Co-Defensive MVPs. 

Senior setter Ava Reding (36 aces, 757 assists), an Iona University commit, was named as the district’s Server of the Year, while senior middle Haley Lowe (seventh in 5A in kills with 557) earned the superlative of Blocker of the Year. Ladycats head coach Claire Gay was selected as the Coach of the Year.

Senior middle Ella Isbell (15th in 5A in blocks with 113), senior defensive specialist Logyn Denbow and junior setter Sophie Frank were named to the all-district first team. Meanwhile, senior Morgan Estevez and junior Ali LoBaugh earned second-team recognition.

Senior Caroline Pruett and junior Tatum Kosse were selected to the honorable mention list. 

Academic all-district accolades went to Denbow, Elms, Estevez, Isbell, Lowe, Meador, Pruitt and Reding, along with juniors Frank, Kosse, LoBaugh, Sarah Schroeder, Karsyn Trott, Kailey Hamilton, Kenley Hamilton and Lily Lufkin.
