Posted

WHITE SETTLEMENT – After a competitive tournament season, the Aledo Ladycats basketball team began the District 5-5A portion of its schedule against the Brewer Lady Bears, a perennial power in the area. Despite a strong challenge by the Ladycats, Aledo could not capture the victory on the road, falling by a final score of 46-39.

Junior guard Elizabeth Griffin was Aledo’s leading scorer with 15 points while Tiara Butler chipped in with nine. Sophomore guard Brooklyn Dempsey scored five points while senior post Kinley Elms had four. Ella Isbell and August Carlone each recorded three points.

The loss made it two straight for Aledo, who had previously won four consecutive contests during pre-district competition.

The Ladycats (10-8, 0-1) will aim to bounce back at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20 at home against Saginaw Chisholm Trail.

Subvarsity

Despite the defeat on the varsity level, the Ladycat subvarsity teams were dominant in their respective wins over Brewer. The freshman squad posted a 36-5 win behind 16 points from Bailey Martin while the junior varsity squad won 47-18, led by eight points from Kennedy Cardenas.
