The Ladycat volleyball team punched their ticket to State on Friday, Nov. 15, as they knocked off the No. 2 team in Texas in straight sets: 25-23, 25-17, and 26-24.
Just days removed from toppling No. 1, Amarillo, the Ladycats made the voyage to Haltom City to square off with a Colleyville Heritage squad they know all too well. The Lady Panthers have gotten the best of Aledo in recent years, leaving the Ladycats with a score to settle.
After a back-and-forth battle to start the night, the Ladycats prevailed in set number one, 25-23 to take an early advantage.
Aledo started off the second set right where they left off with Ella Isbell drawing first blood with a kill from the middle of the net to get the action underway. Isbell, who has progressed by leaps and bounds in her swan song season, became an impenetrable force in the middle for the Ladycat defense in the match, racking up blocks like an expert mason building a wall. Aledo’s defense shut down the Lady Panthers to put the underdogs ahead two sets to none following a 25-17 second stanza.
The fight had not left the Lady Panthers in spite of the deficit they faced heading into set number three. Both teams slugged it out as neither squad was willing to concede the advantage. Ultimately, it was the Ladycats who prevailed, hoisting the Regional Championship trophy as they move on to the State Semifinals.
