Crawfish Fly-In to support Clouddancer scholarship

Posted

The Clouddancer Scholarship Fund will host its third annual Crawfish Fly-In from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, at the Mineral Wells Regional Airport, 5300 Airport Road in Mineral Wells.

The event will feature DC-3 rides, a warbird static display, parachute demonstrations, bounce houses, snow cones, crawfish, hot dogs, and hamburgers.

Admission is free.

Funds raised will go toward scholarships for veterans who wish to pursue a career in aviation. The scholarship is in honor and memory of Ashton Johnson of Willow Park, himself a veteran who wished to become an aviator.

Johnson served in the U.S. Army, first at Fort Sill, where he learned to work on Patriot missile systems and, and C-RAM, which is kind of rocket artillery, mortar, and all the computer engineering goes with all it.

He was sent to Afghanistan, where he put those skills to use and helped coordinate helicopter operations.

When he returned home, Johnson used the G.I. Bill to study aviation, but he learned that the G.I. Bill doesn’t pay for the private pilot certificate.

He tragically lost his life about three years ago.
