A standing ovation from the Weatherford City Council and all present at the recent public meeting was well-deserved to honor the Parker County Peach Festival organization. The group received a national award recognizing their efforts producing the largest event in Parker County.
Parker County Peach Festival president Tammy Gazzola attended the meeting as it was announced the International Festivals and Events Association honored the Peach Festival the Grand Pinnacle Award.
IFEA, based in Pittsburgh, is under the IFEA Global Roundtable Council, which provides guidance and resources to large festivals world-wide.
Weatherford Mayor Paul Paschall expressed the greatness of the award as attendees stood to applaud.
"This is big. This is an international award, ladies and gentlemen," he declared.
Gazzola said the Peach Festival organization also won Best Emergency Management Plan, Best Video Promotion and Best Event Hat from IFEA.
"It was a long, multi-layered application process," Gazzola said. "The video we submitted, which ultimately won us the best video award as well, was produced by the Weatherford Police Department. It's wonderful. It is a beautiful video."
Director of Development and Neighborhood Services Kaleb Kentner presented a plat for final approval to the Council for a proposed new Weatherford Chamber of Commerce addition. Weatherford Commerce of Commerce Business Engagement Coordinator Debra Gass and Chamber Director of Communications & Development Amme O'Grady attended the meeting. The article passed 5-0, which also drew applause from those in attendance.
The building will be on vacant land on the west side of Highland Lake Drive between Sante Fe Drive and Interstate 20.
