Brian Blackburn has been named the head varsity boys basketball coach at Aledo High School.
Blackburn has been the varsity boys basketball associate head coach at Mansfield ISD’s Lake Ridge High School - a 2023-2024 UIL Class 6A State Semifinalist - for the past year. Prior to that, he served as the head varsity boys basketball coach at Boswell High School for three years, Wall High School for six years and Whitewright High School for two years.
Blackburn was an assistant varsity boys basketball coach at Flower Mound Marcus High School from 2011 to 2012 and at Bryan High School from 2008 to 2011. He also has 16 years experience teaching English, mostly at the high school level.
“Coach Blackburn has a track record of success that includes being student-focused and dedicated to making his players better on the court, in the classroom and in their community,” Aledo ISD Athletic Director Brandy Belk said. “We are so excited that he and his family are joining the Bearcat family.”
In 16 years of high school coaching experience, Blackburn has helped lead his teams to 14 playoff appearances. In 2012, he won a UIL Class 5A state championship as the assistant varsity basketball coach at Flower Mound Marcus High school; that team was the Max Preps No. 1-ranked team in the nation. In 2021 at Boswell High School, Blackburn was the District 3-6A Coach of the Year, and he was the 2016 Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Don Coleman State Outstanding Coach Award Winner. Blackburn has also been a head cross country coach during his coaching career, and he’s coached JV and freshman basketball, track and football.
"I am grateful for the opportunity to lead the men's basketball program at Aledo ISD. I would like to thank Superintendent Dr. Susan Bohn, Athletic Director Brandy Belk and the Aledo ISD school board for entrusting me with this position,” Blackburn said. “We will strive for excellence on the court, in the classroom and in the community while playing a fun brand of basketball. Aledo ISD is one of the top districts in the state of Texas, and I cannot wait to "grow greatness" with our players, staff and community."
Blackburn has a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University where he was a three-year varsity letterman on the men’s basketball team, which advanced to the Sweet 16 in 2007 while he was a player. Blackburn also has a master’s degree from Lamar University.
