Baseball: Coyotes enter super regional Thursday

Posted

It’s down to the final four baseball teams in Region V to see who makes the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I World Series.

Weatherford College has qualified for the super regional after sweeping El Paso Community College last week in the first round of the postseason. Now, the four winners of their respective first-round series will convene at Odessa College for the Southwest District Championship May 15-18.

The tournament winner will advance to the World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado. There are no at-large bids.

WC is seeking a second bid in three seasons.

The Coyotes (46-11) will face New Mexico Junior College (39-18) Thursday, May 15, at 11 a.m. in the first game of the double-elimination tournament. Odessa (40-15) will host McLennan Community College (42-16) in the other first-round game.

Weatherford defeated New Mexico twice in February and beat Odessa twice in non-conference play as well. McLennan and WC split their four-game conference series 2-2.

Weatherford is ranked No. 3 in the latest NJCAA national poll released May 5. McLennan is No. 17.

All Southwest District Championship games will be live-streamed at www.tsbnsports.com.
