Area athletes among NTHSRA leaders

The North Texas High School Rodeo Association is on its mid-season break and several area athletes find themselves in the running for a berth in the NTHSRA Finals Rodeo in mid-May. The top 15 in each event will qualify for the finals.

 Weatherford’s Shane McCulloch sits in eighth place in the boys all-around standings. As a team, the Kangaroos are 12th in the standings.

McCulloch is third in the team roping-heeler standings with 322 points. The leader has 476 points. Also in that category, his teammate, Caleb Lewis, is 12th with 154 points.

McCulloch is also sixth in team roping-header with 301 points, with the leader having 427.

Aledo’s top competitor at the midpoint is Annabelle McNeely, who is 10th in barrel racing with 259 points. The leader has 401 points.

Also from Aledo, Burton Caldwell is 14th in poles with 147 points. The leader has 672.

Lewis is ninth in calf roping with 161 points, with the leader having 644. He is sixth in ribbon roping with 280 and 728 leads.

Competition resumes Feb. 8 for those who qualified in the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo’s High School Scholarship Rodeo. The entire NTHSRA resumes action on Feb. 14 in Saginaw.
