Former Aledo Bearcats All-America running back Johnathan Gray, who led Aledo to three Class 4A state championships, heads the list of five members of the Texas Longhorns football team who landed spots on national award watch lists.
Malcom Brown, Quandre Diggs and Cedric Reed were placed on the watch list for the 2014 Chuck Bednarik Award, which honors the top defensive player in the nation, while Malcolm Brown and Johnathan Gray secured spots on the watch list for the Maxwell Award, awarded to the top player in the country.
Last season, despite missing four games with an Achilles injury, Gray, a junior, rushed for 780 yards. Gray ranks 28th on the school’s all-time rushing list with 1,481 yards despite playing less than two full seasons.
