Denton Guyer defeats the Aledo Bearcats 42-30

Two of the best teams in the 4A Football Playoffs meet today at Northwest ISD Stadium in Justin, TX. for the Area Championship.

Guyer won the coin toss and deferred. They chose to take the wind at their back in the first quarter.

Aledo will start at their own 25 yard line after Taco Anderson takes a knee in the end zone on the kickoff. 1 first down later they are forced to punt the ball to the Guyer Wildcats at their 34 yard line.

Two plays, first down Guyer. Three plays, first down Guyer. Finally Aaron Hinsley makes a tackle for a loss. The nest play is a long run to the Aledo 5 yard line, followed two plays later by a touchdown by the Wildcat quarterback. 7-0 Guyer.

Aledo has the ball at their 25 again after the kickoff. Once again they are unable to get a drive going. They punt the ball back to Guyer.

The Wildcats get the ball with good field position at their 48 yard line. Two plays, first down, one play first down. The ball is now at the Bearcat 27 yard line. A big play by Jordan Mittie backs the Wildcats up. Another big play to the big receiver is followed by a touchdown run, right up the middle for another Wildcat touchdown from 15 yards out. 14-0 Guyer with less than 2 minutes left in the first quarter.

Aledo gets a good kickoff return from Taco Anderson, but are forced to kick the ball again after a three and out.

Two plays later the Wildcats have scored again. They now lead the Bearcats 21-0 with 17 seconds left in the quarter.

Bearcats set up for their next possession from their own 24 yard line. A defensive holding penalty on Guyer gets the Bearcats a first down at the 34. That first down is their second of the game, and the only one on this drive, they punt the ball back to The Wildcats at their 32.

The Aledo defense stops the Wildcats this time and they are rewarded with great field position for the offense at the Guyer 44.

Pate Davis for 8 yards followed by a pass play to Jess Anders all the way to the Guyer 13 yard line. A touchdown pass play to Willie Gibson for 15 yards finally gets the Bearcats on the scoreboard with just under 6 minutes left in the first half. Chance Nevarez PAT is good. 21-7.

Starting at their own 25, the Guyer Wildcats have a first down at their 36. Two more plays and another first down at the Aledo 44. A penalty backs them up to their own 46. Jordan Mittie makes a big defensive play on a tackle for a loss.

Bearcats ball at their 27. Caleb Frysinger makes a big play on a 29 yard pass from Pate Davis. It's Aledo's ball at the Guyer 43. They try to convert a fourth down, but Davis' pass is intercepted and Guyer will run the clock out to end the first half at 21-7 Wildcats.

Second Half

Aledo will have the wind in the third quarter. They kick the ball through the end zone and Guyer will work from their 25 yard line. Hinsley and Mauser make defensive plays on the drive and the Bearcat defense forces a punt. The punt attempt is downed for a safety when the punter is unable to handle the long snap.

Aledo will get the ball back in good field position at their own 41 yard line trailing 21-9

They are held again and the Guyer Wildcats get the ball back at their 25 yard line.

The Aledo defense is just not able to manage to contain the Wildcat offense. Jerrod Heard scores on a quarterback keeper to his right to make the score 28-9 Guyer with 4:17 left in the third.

Aledo scores on their first play on a Pate Davis to Willie Gibson pass play for 77 yards. 28-16 Guyer with 3:55 left in the third quarter.

Guyer's Jerrod Heard carries right to the 12 yard line, then left for the final 12 yards and a 35-16 lead with 1:36 left in the third.

Caleb Frysinger returns the kickoff out to the 38 yard line. Willie Gibson from Pate Davis for 37 yards to the Guyer 25. Another first down to the 15 yard line. After being stopped on third down, the Bearcats attempt a Field Goal with 2 seconds left in the quarter. It's blocked by the Guyer defense and they will take over on downs from their 16 yard line.

After the Bearcats fail on a fourth down attempt, the Wildcats score on their first play from scrimmage to make it 42-16 after the PAT.

Aledo comes out firing with passes to Taco Anderson and John Whatley. Jess Anders has a nice run up the middle to the Guyer 44. Jess has another 24 yard run to the 12 yard line. Caleb Frysinger from Pate Davis for another Bearcat touchdown with 7:25 left. PAT good. 42-23 Guyer.

Guyer works from their 21 yard line. They have another first down at their 37, another at the Aledo 48.

Aledo will get the ball back on a punt from the Wildcats. They will have 2:17 left to play when they get the ball back.

They work from their 43 yard line. Pate Davis to Caleb Frysinger for a first down at the Guyer 48 yard line. Pate to Willie Gibson at the Guyer 30.

Pate Davis to Willie Gibson for another Bearcat touchdown to make it 42-30 with 1:02 remaining.

Guyer works from their 30 yard line and they will run the clock out to finish this game with a score, Guyer 42, Aledo 30.
