Bettinger named District 6-4A MVP

In a vote of league coaches, Bettinger was the unanimous choice for District 6-4A's Most Valuable Player. Bettinger finished the 14-match district slate with a league-high 188 kills. With a nail-biting victory last week over Stephenville and a convincing win over Mansfield Legacy Monday night in the regional quarterfinals, the state-ranked No. 11 Aledo Ladycats have advanced to the Region I tournament in San Angelo.

Ladycats, Bearcats playoff games set; Wallace earns trip to state

It has been a successful weekend for Aledo High School athletics.

The Bearcats won the District 6-4A championship with a 42-7 win over Birdville Friday night to complete a 10-0 season; the Ladycats advanced to the regional quarterfinals in volleyball with a win Thursday night over Stephenville; and on Saturday in Lubbock, Aledo senior runner Ken Wallace posted a time of 15:57 to place ninth at the Region I cross country meet which qualifies Wallace for the state meet at Round Rock.

Birdville quarterback Josh Dorman has been the talk of District 6-4A in 2008.

The junior came into Friday night's district championship contest at Bearcat Stadium against the state-ranked No. 4 Aledo Bearcats as the league and area top passer with 3,003 passing yards, 30 touchdowns and just four interceptions.

Ladycats will play Monday against Legacy

The Aledo Ladycats volleyball team will play Mansfield Legacy in a Class 4A regional quarterfinal match at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10, at Colleyville Heritage High School.

The winner of the match will advance to the Region I tournament in San Angelo Nov. 14-15. The regional semifinals will be played on Friday, Nov. 14, with the regional final schedule for Saturday, Nov. 15.


Ladycats down 'Bees in 5-game thriller

After coming back with consecutive wins to tie their Class 4A area championship volleyball match with the state-ranked No. 11 Aledo Ladycats, the Stephenville Honeybees had control, momentum and a great chance to pull off perhaps the biggest upset in the state.

Aledo had taken the first two games 25-19 and 25-17 at the Granbury High School gym, but the 'Bees were not going to buzz away, and Stephenville came back with consecutive 25-17 wins to tie the best-of-5 match at two games apiece.
