Bearcats to host Burleson Friday in scrimmage

The Aledo Bearcats will scrimmage against the Burleson Elks Friday, Aug. 22, at Bearcat Stadium.

Admission is a $1 donation to the Texas High School Coaches Association Benevolence Fund.

The freshmen White/Black/Orange scrimmages will be at 5:30 p.m. at the practice fields.

The sophomore/junior varsity scrimmage will be at 5:30 p.m. at Bearcat Stadium.

The varsity scrimmage will kickoff at 7:15 p.m. at Bearcat Stadium).

Ladycats win 7 of 8 matches over weekend

The state-ranked No. 8 Aledo Ladycats volleyball team raised its over record to 9-1 by winning seven of eight matches Thursday through Saturday in Abilene.

The Ladycats will resume non-district play at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at No. 5 Red Oak.

The Ladycats took a pair of wins Thursday night in a dual match at Abilene High School, defeating host Abilene, 25-21, 26-24, 25-17, and downing Abilene Cooper, 25-18, 25-13, 25-18.

Former city administrator to focus on economic development

Willow Park's former city administrator's job change took place under the mayor to focus more on the city's commercial growth and increasing the city's sales tax revenue, officials said.

Although Claud Arnold's new position as the economic development administrator is not official until the Council takes action at its regular meeting Aug. 18, the move was made under the assumption that Mayor Marvin Glasgow's preliminary actions will be ratified by the Council, Arnold said.

Willow Park administrator takes new post

updated 6:16 p.m. Friday

Former Willow Park city administrator Claud Arnold is now the economic development administrator, according to city secretary Candy Scott.

Scott referred all further questions regarding how the job change occurred to city attorney Rider Scott, saying that she didn't know the answers.

The attorney did not immediately return phone calls seeking comment Thursday afternoon.

Aledo Youth Football Association hosting Kickoff Golf Classic

Aledo Youth Football Association will hold its inaugural Kickoff Golf Classic, a four-man scramble golf tournament Sunday, Aug. 17, at Split Rail Golf Club.
Cost is $100 per individual and proceeds will go toward scholarships and equipment for the league, and funds raised will be utilized to provide financial assitance for families in need to help offset the cost of league registration fees.
Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. followed by a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. Field is limited to the first 124 players.

Mayor Kit Marshall to throw out first pitch at Cats game

Aledo Mayor Kit Marshall played several sports growing up, but not on the same stage when she throws out the first pitch at the Fort Worth Cats-El Paso Diablos game on Friday, Aug. 15, at LaGrave Field.
The Cats often honors area communities, and, on Aug. 15, Aledo-area residents and the community will be recognized, along with the mayor. There will also be fireworks following the game.

Smith play opens this week

Willow Park native directs production at Stage West

Kacie Smith of Willow Park, a sophomore directing major at the University of Michigan, is directing “Melancholy Play,” this week at Stage West in Fort Worth.

The play’s run begins Thursday, Aug. 7 at 7:30 p.m. and continues Aug. 8-9 at 8 p.m.
