Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Parker County will host a workshop on “Pickling, Dehydrating, and Fermenting” from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, July 20 at the Parker County Extension Office, 603 N. Main St. in Weatherford.
Participants will learn about how to safely pickle, dehydrate, make sauerkraut and Kampuchea tea. These classes are for beginners or those who need a refresher course. The classes focus on canning safety, the types of equipment and safe methods.
The cost will be $35.00. Class sizes are limited. To register, call 817-598-6168.
 The County Extension Office checks Pressure Canner gauges and lids. You can call and make an appointment to have your lids checked. The service is free. Just call 817-598-6168.

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service is hosting “Walk & Talk” from 9-10 a.m. Mondays and Thursdays, July 9 to Aug. 2 at Holland Lake Park, 1462 Holland Lake Dr. in Weatherford (register and sign-in at 8:45 a.m.).
The sessions are designed to provide friendly competition, improve health, establish the habit of regular physical activity, increase fruit and vegetable intake, and to keep track of weekly progress. Free gifts will be available.

Master Gardener training orientation

The first of two Master Gardener Training orientation sessions will be at 9 a.m. Thursday, July 26, at the Parker County Extension Office, 604 N. Main Street in Weatherford. The Parker County office of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will offer a Master Gardener Intern Training Course this fall. Anyone seeking to apply for Master Gardener intern training must attend one of two mandatory orientation sessions.
During these orientation meetings, details of the course and expectations for participants will be outlined, and applications will be offered. The training course begins Tuesday, Oct. 2 and will continue weekly on most Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for 10 sessions. These classes provide the necessary classroom instruction toward the certification process to become a Master Gardener. The course is open to residents of Parker County, and the cost will be $180.
The Parker County Master Gardener program is an educational and volunteer program sponsored by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and is a part of the Texas A&M University System. Parker County Master Gardeners receive instruction in a wide range of topics including general horticulture, landscape management, lawn care, tree care, insect and disease management, water conservation, and more. In exchange for this training, the Master Gardeners volunteer time to the community through the Parker County AgriLife Extension program.
