Jerry NewberryJerry Newberry
Jerry was born August 19, 1931 in Mineral Wells, Texas to J.C. and Georgiamae Hayes, but grew up and spent most of her adult life in Weatherford. Jerry graduated from Weatherford High School in 1949 and attended the University of Texas at Austin before marrying Bill in June, 1951. Her ambition as a young woman was to be a wife and mother and to create a loving home. In addition to that vocation she served God and her community in many ways. Hers was a quiet but strong faith rooted in love and service.
Jerry was active in civic affairs, serving as an elections judge; member, Friends of the Weatherford Public Library; and on Cleanscape. Jerry also volunteered for Meals on Wheels, Manna Storehouse, and as a reading volunteer in the Weatherford Public Schools. Jerry was a member of Grace-First Presbyterian Church for more than 60 years, where she taught Sunday school, was active in Women of the Church, served as a Deacon, Elder, and moderator of the Pastoral Search Committee, and as a member of the Committee on Ministry of Grace Presbytery.
Jerry’s family thanks and honors those who aided us in this final journey: Yolanda Parks and the staff of Loving Care; the staff of Silverado Turtle Creek and Silverado Hospice; and the Revs. Ben Dorr and Susan Systma Bratt.
