Juanita Hamzy died with her family by her side Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at age 87.
Service is set for 1 p.m. Thursday in White's Chapel of Memories, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford. Interment will be in East Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at White's Funeral Home.
Hamzy was born Dec. 12, 1926, in Knoxville, Ark., the youngest of 13 children of James and Martha Young. On Sept. 9, 1942, Juanita married Pete Hamzy and they raised five children in Little Rock, Ark., and Benton, Ark., and in 1986 moved to Weatherford. Juanita loved to quilt and tend to her rose garden, but mostly she loved to cook for and be surrounded by her grandchildren and family.
Mamaw Nita was preceded in death by Pete, her husband of 57 years, in 1999; nine brothers; two sisters; and two grandsons.
Survivors include a brother, Glenn Young and wife, Rita, of Clarksville, Ark.; children, Sharon Saari and husband Steve, Shannon Hamzy and wife Janice, Pam Lyerly and husband James, Janet James, and Brad Hamzy and wife, Susie Stark; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; along with many friends whom she loved and considered family.
