James Robert Kelly was born August 31, 1937 in Fort Worth, Texas to parents R.J. “Pete” Kelly and Carrie Jo Fleming Kelly. He grew up and spent most of his life in Aledo and graduated from Aledo High School in 1955. Jim attended Sul Ross University and Sam Houston State University before moving to Caddo in 1964 to oversee the Walking Cane Ranch. Jim married Josie Boyd on September 3, 1977 in Vernon and they made their home in Caddo. Jim loved being outdoors and had a great love for the Walking Cane Ranch. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, wildlife management, flying, improving the ranch, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Jim was a Bible student who had a great love for the feast of Israel. He wrote “God’s Road Map for Man, The 7 Feasts of Israel” in 2007. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; one son, James Winston Kelly; one grandson, Mark McGowan; two aunts, Dorothy Winston and Pearl McCune; and two uncles, Joe Winston and James Kelly.
Jim is survived by his wife of 35 years, Josie Kelly of Caddo; two children, Tammy Jo Feimer and husband Nick of Weatherford and Kirby Boyd and wife Ez of Arlington; two sisters, Jerry Reid and husband Steve of Aledo and Kathy Kelly Sneed of Fort Worth; five grandchildren, Jacob Boyd, John Boyd, Lynn Nykaza, Alesha Kelly and Robert Kelly; two great-grandchildren, Dallas Chase McCreight and John Mark Nykaza; and numerous nieces and nephews.
