Joyce was born in Wise County to Alvin and Gladys Banks April 30, 1929. She was a long time resident of Paradise and an avid Bridge player, loving mother, and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earnest of 52 years; two brothers; and one sister.

Survivors: son, Steve Slate and wife, Nancy (Sam) of Decatur; brothers, Benny Banks, Dean Banks and wife, Shirley, Jerry Banks and wife, Joann; sister, Nona Rick and husband, Fred; grandchildren, Parker and Raena Slate; and long time loving caregiver, Margarita Valenzuela.
