Bearcats end losing skid with 62-55 victory over Boswell

January 30, 2010 by Tony Eierdam

No. 17 Ladycats move to 10-1 in 6-4A with 64-46 win

Paced by a double double from senior Shane Smith, the Aledo Bearcats stopped a four-game District 6-4A losing streak with a convincing 62-55 victory over Boswell Saturday afternoon at the AHS gym.

Smith pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds while also scoring 12 points. Three other Bearcats reached double figures in scoring including junior guard Robbie Spreier with a team-high 15 points, junior guard Danny Glass with 11 and junior guard Matt Barron with 10.

Also scoring for the Bearcats were sophomore post Mike Wilson with six points, and senior guards Gregg Lowe and Dillon Hawkins, each with four.

Defensively, Spreier and Smith led AHS with four steals apiece, with Lowe adding three.

The Bearcats led 17-15 after the first quarter and built a 29-21 lead at the half. Spreier led the Bearcats with 11 points in the opening half, including a pair of three-point buckets.

Boswell outscored Aledo 10-8 in the third quarter to cut the Bearcats' lead to six points as the game entered the fourth period.

But any Boswell plans for a comeback were squashed when Aledo poured in 25 points in the final stanza to secure the win.

The Bearcats (2-7) will continue district play at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, at home against first-place Azle.
