Due to the construction along Stagecoach Trail, Willow Park's annual celebration ParkFest has been cancelled. Sources tell The Community News that no other location could be found in the city to hold the event.
Steering Committee Member Kay Davis issued the following statement:
With deep regret members of the Willow Park ParkFest ’10 Steering Committee feel it is in the best interest of all involved to cancel ParkFest ’10 due to unforeseen circumstances beyond control. The original date was set for Saturday, October 9.
Because of ongoing road construction at the corner of Ranch House Road and Stagecoach Trail West, the traditional ParkFest grounds will be unusable. Research was done for an alternate location, but none was found to be satisfactory for the various needs of vendors, performers and musicians.
Also because of the financial stress it would add to the city budget, the committee has decided that having incomplete or unsatisfactory conditions for the celebration would be more harmful to the future of ParkFest than it would be to cancel.
This committee and its volunteers wish to thank everyone for any preparations they have made and hope everyone realizes the aforementioned unstable conditions make canceling the best option for this year.
The Brookshire's grocery store parking lot was considered for a new location along with a local church, but with construction coming to Ranch House Road as well, organizers have decided to call it off.
