Mail scam targets Weatherford residents

September 14, 2010 by Randy Keck

From the Weatherford Police Department
As always, the Weatherford Police Department is committed to keeping the community up to date on the latest email, mail, and phone scams. We were contacted recently by a resident who received this letter (click here) which has been deemed a mail scam. The resident took the letter with the accompanying check to their bank who advised them that it was fraudulent.

If you receive any type of mail, email or phone call indicating that you have won a prize, particularly if you did not enter the contest, the Weatherford Police Department urges you to research the legitimacy of the contest before taking any action. It may very well be a scam to get your money or your identifying information.

REMEMBER: IF IT IS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE…IT PROBABLY IS!!

If you receive anything similar to this and have any questions or concerns, please contact the Weatherford Police Department at 817-598-4300.
