Auditions scheduled for Nancy McVean, Weatherford College’s long-time drama instructor and director, is looking for a few good men and women – in fact, a LOT of men and women who can sing and act and interested in appearing in the College’s fall production of "Once Upon a Mattress."
“It’s a big cast, and we need all sorts of people,” McVean said, “and it’s going to be a fun time for everyone. It’s musical, but there are non-singing parts, too.”
"Once Upon a Mattress" is a musical comedy with music by Mary Rodgers, lyrics by Marshall Barer and book by Jay Thompson, Dean Fuller, and Marshall Barer. It opened off-Broadway in May 1959, and then moved to Broadway. The play was written as an adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale "The Princess and the Pea"
Auditions are scheduled one night only, Sept. 22, at 6:30 p.m. at the Alkek Fine Arts Center on WC’s Weatherford campus, 225 College Park. McVean said no preparation is necessary, and auditioners should just come prepared to read from a script and to demonstrate acting and singing ability for major characters.
