AHS Ladycats vs. Springtown at Aledo;

Aledo junior guard Logan Mittie scored a game-high 24 points and added 10 steals to lead the Ladycats to a convincing 63-53 victory over Springtown Friday night (Jan. 15) in a District 6-4A contest at Springtown.
The win - which closes out the first half of girls' district hoop play - elevates the Ladycats to 6-1, while Springtown suffered its first league loss.
The Aledo win and Springtown loss combined with Saginaw's win over Azle puts the Ladycats, Springtown and Saginaw in a three-way tie for first place as all three teams sport 6-1 marks.
But unlike Saginaw and Springtown, Aledo will play five of its last seven district games at home, including its last four.
The Ladycats will continue district play at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, at home against Mineral Wells.
The Ladycats led for most of the game and dominated the boards, paced by Tara Gough's 12 rebounds. The senior post also added six points.
Two other Ladycats also reached double figures in scoring. Sophomore wing Caileen Tallant scored 14 points and freshman wing Malory Powell recorded 11 points.
Also scoring for the Ladycats were senior guard Melissa Howell with four points, and junior guard Shelby Stockard and sophomore guard Alanna Martin, each with two.
The Ladycats led 19-17 after the opening period and 30-29 at the half. Aledo held Springtown to nine points in the third period while scoring 13 to take a 43-38 advantage into the fourth quarter.
The Ladycats went 10 for 13 at the free throw line in the fourth quarter to put the game away. For the contest, AHS was 25 of 31 at the charity stripe.
Springtown 76, Bearcats 68
Playing without injured starters Dillon Hawkins and Matt Barron, and losing the services of Ryan Talley in the second half due to an ankle injury, the shorthand Aledo Bearcats' late come back fell short in a 76-68 loss to Springtown Friday night in a 6-4A contest at Springtown.
The loss drops the Bearcats to 1-4 in district play. Aledo will continue 6-4A action at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, at home against Mineral Wells.
Shane Smith led the Bearcats with 21 points, while Danny Glass added 19. Also scoring were Talley with 11 points, Robbie Spreier with nine, Gregg Lowe with five, Blake Reynolds with two and Todd Christian with one.
