Third annual Miles 4 Mammograms run set Oct. 2

September 7, 2010 by Randy Keck

2009 Miles 4 Mammograms2009 Miles 4 MammogramsThe 2010 Miles 4 Mammograms 5K run is scheduled for Saturday, Oct 2 at Hudson Oaks City Hall (210 N. Lakeshore Drive).

Last year’s event drew more than 400 runners and walkers. With the proceeds from this fund raiser, the Parker County Hospital District has assisted more than 400 screening mammograms, 120 diagnostic mammograms, and 25 needle biopsies for local women since 2008. In addition, four men have been provided screening mammograms.

With assistance from Solis Women’s Health and Texas Health Resources Mobile Mammography Bus, residents of Parker County have been given the resources to receive an important annual health screening opportunity regardless of ability to pay.

During the last 11 months, two women have been diagnosed with breast cancer. The womwn reported that t they would not have had the initial screening done due to the cost if it were not for the program.

The Miles 4 Mammograms is sponsored by Parker County Hospital District, and the title sponsor is Texas Oncology. On-site registration will begin at 7 a.m. on the date of the run, and the 5k will begin at 8:30 a.m.
