“How to Succeed in Business When All You Really Want to Do Is Find a Cave and Hide” is the topic for the East Parker County Chamber of Commerce’s membership luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at New River Fellowship, 3252 E. I-20, Hudson Oaks.
Speaker Mark Brown is the former Co-CEO of Pre-Paid Legal and travels across the country speaking and motivating independent businessmen and women to achieve their goals and go beyond.
Brown retired from the corporate end of the business world two years ago. The program will be a subject that’s especially interesting to anyone in business during these changing times. He will give sound advice on how a business owner can best tackle the difficult task of self motivation.
“Nobody feels like swinging for the bleachers 100 percent of the time; things happen in our personal lives – parents die, children get sick or have problems, sometimes husbands or wives leave, or you get sick,” Brown said. “For business owners, whatever personal problems you may have, business must go on. The question is – how do you make your business succeed even when you aren’t feeling like driving it down the road to greatness?”
Brown owned a small commercial printing business with his father for 18 years… but, really, it “owned him.” He worked long hours, saw that everything that needed to be done was done and was the last to get paid. One day, a client who wouldn’t pay his bill led him to what was then known as Pre-Paid Legal (now Legal Shield). He used the service and knew he wanted to share it with others. He sold his printing business and began working as an independent sales associate for the company; he was quickly promoted to the position of Regional Vice President over the Texas division, then Senior Vice President of Marketing and eventually became Co-CEO of the publicly-traded company.
