Aledo senior outside hitter Christa Daniel elevates for a kill during the Ladycats' sweep over Denton Guyer Tuesday night at Guyer as senior middle Jordan Jacobs (15) and senior libero Taylor Brown (2) get into position. Daniel led the Ladycats with 11 kills, and was also named to the all-tournament team at this past weekend's Byron Nelson Tournament.
The Aledo Ladycats volleyball team raised its record to 11-6 after a convincing 25-15, 25-16, 25-12 sweep over Denton Guyer Tuesday night (Aug. 24) in a non-district match at Guyer.
Sophomore setter Mallory Powell recorded a match-high 29 assists. Senior outside hitter Christa Daniel led the Ladycats with 11 kills, while senior middle Jordan Jacobs added six.
Daniel closed out game one with a kill form the left side, and in game two, a back row kill from junior defensive specialist Hannah Loftin sealed the contest to give the Ladycats a 2-0 lead in games.
In game three, the Ladycats jumped out to an 11-3 lead, but Guyer came back to cut the Aledo advantage to 16-10.
After the teams split the next two points, Kelcie Childs went on a seven point service run, including consecutive aces, to bring the contest to match point with AHS in front, 24-10.
Three rallies later, Guyer misfired on a return as the Ladycats took a 13-point victory and the match.
Aledo will play next at the Fredericksburg tournament which begins with pool play on Thursday (Aug. 26).
In sub-varsity action, the Ladycats freshman team defeated Guyer, 25-13, 21-25, 25-23, while the Ladycats junior varsity downed Guyer, 25-14, 25-22.
