Gluten Intolerance Group of North Texas meeting

The Gluten Intolerance Group of North Texas will meet on Saturday, May 4, at The Hills Church, 6300 NE Loops 820 N. Richland Hills. The regular support group, as well as the free Celiac 101 Class (for newly diagnosed), starts at 10 a.m. and both end at noon. To register for the class, email firstname.lastname@example.org. For the meeting, members will host Kathryn Miller, M.S., R.D., L.D., a Registered and Licensed Dietitian and who has spent the last 23 years working at the Cooper Clinic specializing in cardiovascular disease, weight loss, celiac and other GI diseases, as well wellness and prevention. She serves as Co-Director for the Cooper Clinic nutrition department, a division of the Cooper Aerobics Center in Dallas, Texas. Kathryn Miller became interested in working with patients with celiac disease in the 1990’s when her father was having GI issues. Kathryn’s father was not diagnosed with celiac disease until 2006, at which time he began following a gluten-free diet. Because of her interest in helping educate her father and her involvement in helping her father purchase gluten-free food, prepare gluten-free meals and learn how to manage eating out on a gluten-free diet, she has firsthand experience of how to guide people who have been diagnosed with celiac disease. Miller graduated from Oklahoma State University with BS degree in Food, Nutrition and Institution Administration in 1970 and completed her Master of Science Degree from Oklahoma State University in Food, Nutrition and Institution Administration with an emphasis in Human Nutrition in 1984. She completed her six-month pre-planned work experience at South Miami Hospital in 1985 and began working at South Miami Hospital as a Registered Dietitian in 1986. After moving to Dallas in 1989, she began working at the Cooper Clinic. She is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Texas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Dallas Dietetic Association and the Medical Nutrition Practice Group.
