The Weatherford Art Association will hold sculpture workshops with artist Dale Martin every Wednesday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday afternoon from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in May beginning on Wednesday, May 1. The workshop will be open to adult beginner and intermediate sculpture students.
Students will be using an oil-based plastaline clay, which is a non-hardening clay used mostly for sculptures to be cast in bronze or other media. It can not be fired, but remains pliable for years and can be worked over and over again. Each student will create a sculpture of their choice. A photo of what students intend to sculpt should be brought to class to use as reference by the instructor and student. Some sculpture examples will be furnished to those that wish to use them as reference material.
The workshop will cost $110 and all materials will be furnished and become the property of the student. There is a $35 non-refundable deposit required to sign up for the workshop so that your materials may be purchased and ready to use at the beginning of the workshop. Students that do not have sculpting tools will be furnished a wooden base to work on, armature wire (as needed), sculpting tools, and 4 lbs. of clay. Students who already have tools (including beginning students) will be furnished with a wooden base to work on, 8 lbs. of clay and armature wire (as needed). There will be a maximum of 12 students accepted and enrollment will end April 14. All balances must be paid in full by the beginning of the first class. If for any reason WAA cancels the workshop, all deposits will be refunded.
Students will need to furnish a flexible measuring tape, a sharp knife for cutting clay, a pair of common pliers and a rag or paper towels for occasional hand wiping.
