Paced by a quick front row and resilient back row, the Aledo Ladycats swept Class 4A No. 5 Red Oak, 25-15, 25-21, 25-17, Tuesday night (Aug. 17) in a non-district volleyball match at Red Oak.

The win raises the Ladycats overall mark to 6-3. Aledo will play next at the Northwest ISD tournament, which runs Friday and Saturday, Aug. 20-21.

The Ladycats will begin pool play at 9 a.m. Friday (Aug. 20) against Waxahachie at Medlin Middle School in Trophy Club. Aledo will continue pool play at Medlin Middle School with a 1:30 p.m. game against Magnolia and a 3 p.m. contest against Midlothian. Bracket play will begin on Saturday, Aug. 21, at Byron Nelson High School.

Tuesday night at Red Oak, the Ladycats cruised to a 10-point victory in the first game, and after falling behind 15-9 in game two, stormed back by scoring 15 of the next 20 points to take a 24-20 lead. A kill in the middle by sophomore hitter Brianna Sharrett sealed game two.

In game three, Aledo jumped out to a 12-3 lead and never looked back. Sharrett and senior hitter Jordan Jacobs combined for 10 kills in the third and deciding game.

Jacobs led Aledo with 12 kills, Sharrett added nine, senior hitter Christa Daniel and junior hitter Tyler Gromann each recorded six, and senior hitter Lindsey Baird added five.

Sophomore setter Mallory Powell registered a match-high 41 assists, while senior libero Taylor Brown recorded 19 digs. Daniel added 10 digs and Powell had eight digs.
