Hometown Heritage Stampede this weekend

October 23, 2012 by Anonymous

Event Date:
Sat, 10/27/2012 - 10:00am - 4:00pm

Gunfighters
Weatherford will host the Hometown Heritage Stampede from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27. The first of the featured entertainers will be Buffalo Bill’s Cowboy Band, a 28 piece band period-specific to Buffalo Bill’s 1915 stop in Weatherford. The band is scheduled to perform two 60-minute acts at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. In addition, the city will welcome The Legends of Texas, the award-winning professional re-enactment group that performs comedy gunfight acts in the Fort Worth Stockyards throughout the summer.

Additional activity include a kids’ korral with western activities and other displays that honor Weatherford’s rich heritage. A kiddie dress-up contest will be held at the entertainment area on Dallas and York Avenue. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. and kiddos ages 3-12 can participate by dressing in conjunction with one of two categories: Cowboy/Cowgirl and Historical Character/Novelty (saloon girl, Roy Rogers, etc.). Immediately following the dress-up contest, kids ages 2-8 can participate in a stick horse barrel race contest. Registration opens at 11:30 a.m.

In conjunction with the Hometown Heritage Stampede, businesses will offer a downtown trick-or-treat. Throughout the day, children and their families in costume are encouraged to explore downtown Weatherford. Select stores around the square, Main Street, York Avenue and more will host this event. It’s simple: businesses with a cut-out pumpkin placed on their doors are welcoming trick-or-treaters!

The primary event area will begin on the Northwest Quadrant of the Square which will contain general and western-themed vendors. Shop treasured ‘tiques as York Avenue dawns the Antique Alley, which will display several local vintage vendors. The entertainment and kids area will be held at the parking lot on Dallas Avenue and York Avenue. Event-goers are encouraged to park in any of the other three quadrants of the square, surrounding the Courthouse.
