City declares water emergency

August 2, 2010 by Randy Keck

The City of Hudson Oaks has declared a water emergency effective immediately. Text of the notice sent from the city is as follows:

Due to a water main break at the Weatherford Lake Water Treatment Facility, the City of Hudson Oaks has declared a water emergency and imposed Stage 3 water restrictions, effective immediately.

Stage 3 of the City’s Water Conservation and Drought Contingency Plan is triggered when water demand for the delivery system exceeds delivery capacity because delivery capacity is inadequate, or when the water supply system is unable to delivery water due to the failure or damage of major water system components. The main break at the Weatherford facility falls into both categories.

The following restrictions are in effect for all residential and commercial water customers immediately and until further notice:

1. No irrigation or landscape watering
2. No hose watering/washing or paved areas, buildings, or windows
3. No operation of ornamental fountains
4. No hose washing or rinsing of vehicles
5. No use of water in such a manner as to allow runoff or other waste

Water customers are asked to conserve domestic water consumption in any way possible until the repairs to the Weatherford water line are made and full service capacity can be restored.

If an irrigation system at a home or business is set to run today, and the owner is not available on site to turn that system off, City water crews will shut off the water meter to conserve water. When they return to their facility, home or business owners may contact City staff to have their water service restored, at no charge. The City apologizes for any inconvenience such emergency cutoffs may cause, but they are necessary in this emergency situation.

The City will continue to keep residents and business owners apprised as the situation changes, using the emergency phone notification system, City website, and City Facebook page. Home and business owners who are not receiving phone notifications on their mobile phones are encouraged to visit the City’s website at www.hudsonoaks.com and register their mobile phones with the Blackboard Connect emergency notification system.

City staff will be happy to answer any questions regarding this water emergency, and they may be reached by calling 682‐229‐2400.
