Ladycats smother Boswell to move to 4-0

January 5, 2010 by Tony Eierdam

Boswell keeps Bearcats winless in district with late comeback win

Fourth-quarter performances determined the outcome of both the Aledo Ladycats and Bearcats basketball games Tuesday night in District 6-4A action at Boswell.

The Ladycats went on a 17-6 run in the final period to come away with a 43-25 victory over the Lady Pioneers. The Aledo ladies went 19 for 22 at the free throw line, including an 11-for-12 effort in the fourth quarter.

In the boys' game, Boswell came back from an 11-point deficit in the third quarter and outscored the Bearcats 18-12 in the final period to slip past Aledo, 56-54.

The Bearcats missed three shots from the lane and their last six free throws in the final quarter and fell to 0-2.

The win elevates the Ladycats to 4-0 as AHS is in a first-place tie with Springtown in District 6-4A.

Logan Mittie led the Ladycats with 13 points, with Alanna Martin adding eight. Also scoring for the Ladycats were Mallory Powell and Caileen Tallant, each with seven points, Tara Gough and Shelby Stockard, each with three, and Melissa Howell with two.

The Bearcats (0-2), playing for all but one second of the game without leading scorer and rebounder Ryan Talley - who is nursing an injury - were led in scoring by Shane Smith with 16 points.

Also scoring for the Bearcats were Matt Barron with 11 points, Dillon Hawkins with eight, Danny Glass with seven, Robbie Spreier with five, Johnathan Gray with four, Blake Reynolds with two and Dillon Huerta with one.
