Shannon was born August 24, 1933 in Carthage, Texas. She graduated from Minden High School in Louisianain 1951 and attended Business School in Shreveport from 1952-1953.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lorene & Leuell Jernigan, and her daughter, Sandra Kay Forbes, and grandson, Kelly Anson Caudle.

She is survived by sisters, Jerri Jernigan, Carole Jernigan Govan and husband,Chip; brothers, Leuell Curtis Jernigan and wife, Cecilia; W. Keith Jernigan and wife, Cheryl; daughter, Rebecca Crawford Maris and husband, Dewey; Grandchildren, Anthony Kevin Caudle, Kimberly Forbes Williams, and Tracie Michelle Forbes; Chris Maris, Jennifer Maris Sproat and husband, Michael; Angela Kay Klutts and husband, Ben; great-grandson, Micah Tyler Sproat and great- granddaughter, Emily Klutts. She is also survived by four nieces and four nephews.
